Hello, I’m new to the group so thank you for having me. I’m just trying to get to grips with the FOSIL Framework but already I can see what a fantastic resource it is.
I’ve been looking at it over the last few weeks with a view to recommending that we should use it across the school I work at as, up until now there is no ‘real’ information skills taught. We do the EPQ which was on my job description before I started 18 months ago but by the time I started the role had been assigned to another teacher. It’s taught in the library and I sit in on his information skills teaching …. say no more!!
To get to the point, as from September, at my suggestion Year 8 are going to be starting a new lesson roughly called ‘projects’. The idea had been that they would do the Level 1 or Level 2 Project Qualification. In hindsight I’ve realised that this may be too much for these students, particularly after lockdown. Looking at the FOSIL framework, which I would have made the core of the teaching anyway, I’m now wondering if anyone has done a PQ/HPQ style project where the pupils can decide on their own topic and made it into a mini qualification almost? There would have to be a marking criteria created but my thinking is, it could loosely be based around the PQ/HPQ, this just eliminates all of the production log paperwork.
Hope this waffling makes sense.
