FOSIL Group member Elizabeth Hutchinson has witten a blog post – Focus on Inquiry – Learning together – outlining the free online discussion that she will hosting around Focus on inquiry : a teacher’s guide to implementing inquiry-based learning.
Co-authored by FOSIL Group members Jennifer Branch-Mueller, Professor in the Department of Elementary Education at the University of Alberta, and Dianne Oberg, Professor Emerita in the Department of Elementary Education at the University of Alberta, Focus on inquiry updated Focus on Research: A Guide to Developing Students’ Research Skills (Alberta Education, 1990), bringing together 13 years of research, practice and reflection, and laying the foundation for Alberta Learning.
Develepment of the inquiry process/ model that Focus on inquiry is based on took a number of years and was substantially influenced by the work of Carol Kuhlthau. Given similarities of this inquiry process/ model with FOSIL combined with Carol Kuhlthau’s influence on FOSIL, especially in understanding the affective demands of inquiry, this series of discussions promises to broaden and deepen our understanding of inquiry.
