Underlying the FOSIL Inquiry Cycle is a PK-12 (age 4-18) framework of skills (based on the Empire State Information Fluency Continuum) showing the progression of inquiry skills over a student’s time in school. Mapping these skills in order to make sure that they are taught effectively and there are plenty of disciplinary and interdisciplinary opportunities for students to practise them as they move through school is a vital part of planning for effective inquiry learning.
