Good afternoon,
this is not a question related to enquiry led learning – it is a general question but I hope someone may be able to help me.
I looked for a couple of books on the Senate House library catalogue (University of London) and I did not recognise the classmarks – they do not seem to be Dewey – I thought they might be an American classification but I got very confused when I searched for information on the Library of Congress Classification. Here are two classmarks I chose ramdomly: 94.23i and 94.2H WIL. I reproduced below what the catalogue looked like; is there anyone who might be able to enlighten me please? What system it is and how it works…
Thank you very much indeed for any help
Kind regards
Vittoria

Dear Vittoria,
How interesting! I just did a random Google search for each of the classmarks you gave and they both came up with results from the Institute of Classical Studies Library at the Joint Library of the Hellenic and Roman Societies. I therefore searched for that and here is some information for you http://w01.icslib.wf.ulcc.ac.uk/about-collection.htm
If you scroll down you will find a paragraph all about their classification system! I hope that helps.
Sally
Thank you, Sally and Vittoria – I had missed this – very interesting.
