The National Library of New Zealand has a useful introduction to inquiry learning, which references Barbara Stripling’s Model of Inquiry, which FOSIL is based on, as well as some other models of the inquiry process, including Carol Kuhlthau’s Guided Inquiry Design.

The NLoNZ introduction is very useful overview for schools, Darryl.  It’s also helped me to clarify in my own mind the difference between a guided and a controlled inquiry.
