CILIP SLG 2009 | Plumbing the Depths of the LMS

I have uploaded the first presentation that I made as a school librarian – Plumbing the Depths of the LMS: The Role of the Library Management System in Developing Research Competence (PPT download) – which was at the CILIP SLG National Conference (2009.04.03-05).

Although this presentation does not mention FOSIL, it anticipates FOSIL in two important ways:

1. It establishes at the outset an abiding concern with developing a collaborative instructional relationship between the librarian/ library and teacher/ classroom that has as its end greater independence of student learning through the means of research (later inquiry).
2. It establishes at the outset an abiding concern with Jesse Shera’s charge that librarians had not developed a theory of the role of the library in the student’s intellectual experience.

These two concerns are central to my ongoing series for The School Librarian* – Between the Library and the Classroom: Becoming Integral to the Educational Process – which is collated in A theory of the role of the library in the student’s intellectual experience.
