Hi,
This term I have started working with Year 8 RE to consolidate and re-teach learning from the first two terms (Autumn and Winter). The project is titled “I Am Misunderstood” and it asks students to revisit their RE books and articles that have been provided to them (links are given in the PowerPoint).
The RE teacher wanted to focus on these priority skills:
- Background Knowledge: Overview / Context / Key Ideas,
- Interest / Prior Knowledge
- Organization of Information to Express / Present Meaning for Different Purposes
Just to note that I have created this unit and format of this unit with the following in mind: two groups have had consistent supply teachers teaching them, classes are split between two teachers and some are taught by non-specialists. Therefore a lot of the worksheets linked are for the instances where laptops are available and if they need to be printed. They are accessible only via Google Drive so if anyone wishes to access any of the worksheets I can attach them in a separate post.
I’ve copied and pasted the Unit Aims here:
- You will be working in groups of 6-7 and given either Islam or Christianity to represent. In each group you will have students responsible for a topic which they have to find information on. These topics will be things you have already learned throughout the year.
- The topics are: Equality, Conflict and Celebration.
- At the end of the unit, you will be “inviting” your class to your home and explaining to them your religion’s perspective on Equality, Conflict and the different ways you celebrate. You will gather as much information as possible and present a speech at the end of the unit.
- You will also look at your topic in relation to a specific country.
- You can create artefacts, displays and role-play scenarios to help present your information.
This is the first time I’ve used the FOSIL Inquiry Cycle openly (at the bottom of the slides), and I will be asking the RE teacher for feedback regarding this.
