On Tuesday February 10th 2026 I was fortunate to have a slot at a Parent Partnership evening for parents in Y7-9 (Grade 6-8) from our school, to share some ideas with them about AI, particularly in relation to homework but also online safety. As views about AI tend to become very polarised, I tried to tread a middle ground, and focus the discussion on academic integrity and on the ‘product’ of education being the young person themselves, not the work that they produce. This also enabled me to avoid too much discussion of individual apps and sites (‘tips and tricks’), although I gave some examples, because the field is still moving so quickly that I find principles are much more useful in helping parents to make informed decisions than specifics.
- My slides are available here. PPTX
- The handout I gave is available here. PDF, DOCX
- A video recording of the presentation that I made afterwards is available on YouTube here. I only had 20 minutes on the night, so must have talked slower or added more when I recorded it without that pressure!
